D.Va Package Branding
Design Concept:
The subject for this project is D.Va (aka Hana Song), one of the many characters from Blizzard Entertainment's multiplayer game Overwatch. This project stemmed from a small in-joke in the player community where the character D.Va, a professional E-Sports player, is stereotyped to live off a steady diet of Doritos and Mountain Dew. I decided, "If this character is an in-game celebrity, then it would only make sense that she would happily license her likeness for both Doritos and Mountain Dew!" and thus these products were born. The overall idea for these pieces were to make in-universe product placement that were blatant parodies of both Doritos and Mountain Dew with D.Va's likeness and branding all over them. And to expand on this, I also threw in a poster that would advertise both these snacks to the target gaming audience, both in and out of universe. Design Process:
For this project, I found templates for both a chip bag and a soda label and worked primarily in Illustrator to lay out the initial designs. I used vectorized assets of D.Va's iconography and even drew her myself as one of the primary images used for the packaging. From there, I broke down D.Va's official logo and handmade the additional letters to make the D.Varitos and D.Va Dew logos respectively, as well as replicate the layout of the original packaging as closely as I can.
